The Department of Linguistics at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin Fall of academic year 2025-26. We seek a candidate whose work focuses on the languages of South Asia, in any area of linguistics, including but not limited to syntax, semantics, phonetics, phonology, language documentation, historical linguistics, sociolinguistics, or computational linguistics. A research specialization in modern South Asian languages from any of the above perspectives would be especially welcome. Duties will include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service. We seek candidates who can teach linguistics courses at all levels (lower- and upper-division undergraduate, and graduate), and who can train the next generation of researchers in the study of South Asian languages. The faculty member will also serve as affiliated faculty with UT’s South Asia Institute (SAI), a Title VI funded National Resource Center for South Asia, and will be expected to interact with SAI faculty and students, engage with SAI activities, and to offer courses that contribute to SAI’s goals.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in linguistics or a related field by the time of appointment and have demonstrated a strong teaching and research trajectory. Proficiency in one or more modern South Asian language(s) is preferred but not required.
Application Instructions
Applicants must upload a letter of application, a CV, a statement describing their research program, a statement of teaching interests (including a list of courses that the applicant would be prepared to teach), evidence of past teaching performance or teaching potential, three letters of recommendation, and three writing samples. The search committee will begin reviewing applications on November 15, 2024, and continue until the position is filled.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position funding is subject to budget availability.
